Who We Are

Family First Virginia is a foster care prevention initiative of the Virginia Department of Social Services. Funding for the program is provided by the federal Family First Prevention Services Act. Evidence-based, trauma information services in the program include:

  • Mental health prevention and treatment services,
  • Family-based substance use treatment and prevention services,
  • In-home parenting skills services.

Prevention services include Kinship Navigators and evidence-based programs. Additional services include foster care with an emphasis on family placement.

Services are provided on a regional basis through local Department of Social Services offices statewide.
