Memory Care

Westminster Canterbury Richmond is a Life Care Retirement Community offering support to individuals with memory impairment who may require some assistance with daily needs in the Monticello and The Gables facilities.

Monticello is designed for those with mild memory-support needs. An assisted living staff serves nutritious meals and helps to manage medications. Otherwise, Monticello residents just sign out and navigate the campus as they please. They lead independent, active lives. The capacity is 36 residents.

The Gables provides a secure environment for those with more pronounced cognitive and physical needs, cared for by a 24-hour nursing staff. In distinct households, uniquely decorated to help residents recognize their homes, they live in private residences with large bathrooms with walk-in showers.

Each household area has a distinct look to help residents identify their home. A central kitchen serves as a care station, which affords easy monitoring and encourages interaction. Around it is an open sitting area with a fireplace, inviting family rooms, an intimate dining room where nutritious meals are shared, and short hallways to residences.  Individual residences welcome the personal touches of cherished pieces of furniture or other personal items. Secured patios and terraces allow access to the safely enclosed Mary Morton Parsons Garden.

Monticello and The Gables offer proven programs that help people with memory challenges maintain focus, have a sense of control, and be socially engaged. These therapies include Art Therapy (drawing, painting, printmaking, working with fiber and clay), Horticultural Therapy (planting seeds and bulbs, arranging flowers, harvesting vegetables, enjoying nature), and Music Therapy which uses familiar chords and lyrics to help spark memories, improve communication, Additionally, five physicians, a podiatrist, an audiologist, and a dentist have office hours on site.
