Emergency Home Repair

Albemarle Housing Improvement Program (AHIP) offers an Emergency Home Repair Program.  The program takes care of minor but urgent repairs that, if left undone, would jeopardize a family's health and safety. The program serves extremely low- to low-income renters and homeowners throughout Albemarle and Greene counties. Project examples include:

•      heating system repairs or installations
•     roof repairs or replacements
•     window and door repairs
•     deck/steps/porch repairs
•     handicap access ramps
•     floor repairs
•     chimney repairs
•     plumbing and electrical repairs

Costs range from $100 to $10,000. ​
If more extensive work is needed than repair, eligible and interested families can sign up for AHIP's Housing Rehabilitation Program.

Home repair covers repair of exposed electrical wires, faulty water heater, failed window air-conditioner unit; install or replace broken door or window, smoke detectors, grab bar or handicap-access ramp; replace or reinforce dangerous stairs, loose balcony or stair railings, patch a leaking roof and much more.
