Who We Are
The Staunton Talking Book Center provides a free public library service with easy access to the informational and recreational reading materials needed by individuals in the service area who are unable to read standard print material. The center is a sub-regional library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NLS).
Service is offered to blind, vision impaired and physically challenged individuals through the provision of reading machines that play specially designed, pre-recorded audio books. Books are on a wide array of subjects: bestsellers, classics, mysteries, westerns, biographies, and children's books. Magazines and Spanish language materials are also available. There is no charge, whatsoever, to the patron.
The City of Staunton provides space for the Center's office and collection. Local counties and the United way of Lexington-Rockbridge are supporters. Other support comes from Friends of the Library groups, the Lions and local service clubs and individual donors.
Materials can be picked up or left at the main circulation desk of the Staunton Public Library during the hours that the TBC is closed.
