Low Cost Homeownership

Amherst Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses are then sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.  Volunteers provide most of the labor and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves help with the building.



To become a homeowner, you must apply, have the need for adequate shelter, have the financial ability to pay the zero-interest mortgage, and agree to partner with Amherst County Habitat by providing 300 of Sweat Equity into construction and have lived in the Central Virginia area for one year from date of application.  

Amherst County Habitat for Humanity is affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit ecumenical Christian housing organization.
