Who We Are

CASA of Central Virginia offers trained volunteers to be advocates for abused and neglected children.  A CASA volunteer gives an abused and neglected child a voice, in the courtroom and in the community.  A volunteer must pass a background check, participate in a 40+hour pre-service training course and agree to stay with a case until it is closed (a year and a half on average).

CASA will train and supervise community volunteers to advocate for children who are subjects of judicial proceedings involving allegations of abuse, neglect, in need of services or for whom the judge determines such services are appropriate. (CASA.... Court Appointed Special Advocate)

CASA volunteers investigate the circumstances of the case; submit to the court a written report of the investigation; monitor the case to ensure compliance with court orders; assist the guardian ad litem if one has been appointed; and reports allegations of abuse or neglect to the Department of Social Services.
